Anti Polio Immunization Campaign is Underway Nationwide
For the year 2023, the first immunization campaign for polio has begun all across the country on 16 January 2023. With the help of immunization children under the age of 5 will be able to fight against the disease of polio.
According to the sources around 100,000 trained “Sehat Muhafiz” has been taking part in the vaccination drive to immunize children.
The Minister of National Health Services said that Pakistan has made great improvements in fighting against polio and the circulation of the virus have reduced to a great extent and soon we will be able to eliminate polio from Pakistan.
Whereas, Coordinator of the National Emergency Operation Centre Dr. Shahzad Baig mentioned that the area with the high risks of polio is on top priority.
In Punjab
Anti-polio campaign of 5 days has begun in all districts of Punjab on Monday, just like the other parts of the country. The target to vaccinate 22 million children is set by the authority. A total of 84,500 mobile teams that have almost 200,000 polio workers are in the field. The polio drive will continue till 20th January.
In KPK
In KPK the 3 days anti-polio campaign began in 28 districts on Monday. In accordance with the Emergency Operation Center KPK, the plan is to administer polio drops to more than 6 million children.
A team of around 22,000 have been constituted to visit door-to-door in order to vaccinate children. Apart from visiting door-to-door the team will also visit bus stops, railway stations, refugee camps, and other places to ensure the vaccination of children.
Security measures have been taken care of to ensure the security of polio teams in the province.
In Gilgit Baltistan
Sabir Hussain, the Coordinator to the Chief Minister, inaugurated the anti-polio campaign by administering polio drops to children. During this campaign, 252,000 children will be administered polio drops in order to immunize them from the disorder.
The health department has 1542 polio teams to carry out the polio drive. A provincial-level control room has been made in the EPI’s provincial office.
